Genetically modified (GM) wheat is a variety that does not yet exist; it looms on the horizon with the agriculture giant Monsanto leading the race. Scientists have developed a set of technologies to alter the genetic make up of organisms, including wheat, which may enhance the taste, nutrient value and quality of wheat. With billions of hungry mouths to feed and less arable land upon which to grow food, it may make sense to consider the GM wheat. However, many people feel that this will change the agriculture landscape of North America and the rest of the world for good because once GM wheat comes into existence it may push natural varieties of plant species toward extinction
