Calling all burgeoning young chefs! Michelle Obama has officially announced the launch of her new show Waffles + Mochi, coming to Netflix March 16th.
This kid-centric series sees the former First Lady as a supermarket owner, partnering with puppet cohosts Waffles and Mochi, two aspiring chefs. With the aid of a magical flying shopping cart, they travel to farms and kitchens around the world to learn about wholesome ingredients from around the world.
“Kids will love it, but I know that adults will also get plenty of laughs—and some tips for the kitchen,” Mrs. Obama said in her Instagram post announcing the launch of the show.
Guests include world-class chefs like Samin Nosrat, José Andrés and Massimo Bottura to name a few, as well as celebrity superstars such as Jack Black, Zach Galifinakis, Rashida Jones, Sia, Mandy Moore, Stranger Things child star Gaten Matarazzo and many more.
Obama calls this an extension of the work she undertook during her time as First Lady in addressing and improving children’s health, such as through initiatives like her “Let’s Move!” campaign.
“I wish a program like this had been around when my girls were young,” she said. “ I also know that this is a difficult time for so many families, and I’m hopeful that this delightful show can bring a bit of light and laughter to homes around the world. That’s why as part of the show’s commitment to helping families during the pandemic, we’re working with our partners at @PHAnews to get fresh ingredients to families in need across the country so they can cook together at home.”
