The ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-fat regimen.

FOODS TO EMBRACE

• Organic grass-fed meats and pastured eggs

• Wild fish and seafood

• Organic, grass-fed full-fat butter, yogurt, cottage cheese, aged cheeses, cream cheese and sour cream

• Nuts & seeds

• Coconut oil, butter, ghee, olive oil, avocado oil

• Lower-starch vegetables such as leafy greens (kale, bok choy, spinach), asparagus, cucumber, summer squash, cauliflower, cabbage and celery

• Fruits such as avocados and tomatoes and limited amounts of berries

• Limited amounts of dry red wine or dry white wine

• Low-carb sweeteners including stevia and yacon syrup

FOODS TO AVOID

• All grains including whole wheat and brown rice

• All processed foods

• Conventionally raised meats

• Condiments with sugar, additives or preservatives

• Milk and ice cream

• High-sugar fruits such as bananas, mangos and pineapple

• High-carb sweeteners such as honey, maple syrup and sugar

• Beer, sweetened cocktails and sweet wines
