Food Label Alert!

Regenerative organic certified is a new holistic agriculture certification that establishes robust requirements for pasture-based animal welfare, fairness for producers and workers, and for soil health and ecological land management.

Why Is It Significant? With each bite of food that’s farmed from a regenerative organic certified farm, you can be assured that your purchase will help mitigate climate change, support ecologically friendly agriculture, improve the well-being of pasture-raised animals and ensure the fair treatment of farmers and workers. Only products certified under the USDA Organic program are eligible for regenerative organic certification, so farms have to attain organic certification first. Who Regulates It? It’s overseen by The Regenerative Organic Alliance, a coalition of organizations and businesses led by the Rodale Institute and fronted by Dr. Bronner’s and Patagonia. Other founding members of the certification include Demeter, Fair World Project and Maple Hill Creamery. When Will It Launch? Pilot audits are happening in the coming months with a small group of certifiers and producers in hopes of launching Regenerative Organic Certified products within the next two years. Born and raised in Barcelona to Lebanese-Jewish parents, sisters and recipe developers Vicky Cohen and Ruth Fox grew up eating Spanish, Lebanese and Israeli cuisine. Although they now live near Philadelphia, they wanted to share the flavors of the foods they grew up with to a new audience. A New Spin: While Middle Eastern cuisine is already largely plant-based, finding 100% vegan variations can be tricky. For Tahini & Turmeric: 101 Middle Eastern Classics – Made Irresistibly Vegan, Fox and Cohen rose to that challenge, developing a modern, healthy spin on traditional Middle Eastern food with simple yet mouthwatering plant-based dishes. Their cookbook is a love story to the foods of the Middle East, complete not only with recipes but with the stories and history behind the main foods featured.
