I enjoy a delicious cup of flavored coffee myself – my current favorite is cinnamon. All I do is add a pinch of this pungent spice to my coffee grinds just before brewing. Other flavored coffees, such as pumpkin spice or chocolate macadamia nut, are made by infusing regular coffee beans with flavor-adding compounds.
Beware of instant varieties, however, which may add unwanted chemicals, sugars and fat to your diet. A six-ounce serving may contain as much as three grams of fat and four teaspoons of sugar or, worse, sugar alternatives. Try adding spices to your own grounds. I like cinnamon and a pinch of vanilla during the colder months!
