We’re just about at the end of our 14 days together, and today I want to invite you to get involved on a bigger level to bring even more meaningful change to the cause.
We can’t just leave these issues at a local, individualized issue. We also need to take collective action to make changes that will actually intervene and stop waste at the source. A great way to get involved with a global movement to address the plastic waste crisis is by joining the Break Free From Plastic organization. They are working to pass the Break Free from Plastic Pollution Act and are working tirelessly to get as many people involved as possible.
This comprehensive federal legislation would begin to phase out throwaway plastics made from fossil fuel, hold the plastic industry responsible for its waste and pause construction on any new plastic-making plants. Imagine how long overdue but game-changing these changes would be –and you can be a part of the change!
To learn more about how the crisis impacts our world and especially Black, Indigenous and People of Color communities, watch this video interview with Shilpi Chhotray from Break Free From Plastic and learn about solutions and thoughts on how to tackle this very complex and insidious problem.
See you tomorrow!
