Everything bagel seasoning is amazing, so why not use that blend for your proteins, too? It’s a surprisingly versatile mix of flavors, and you can easily create a DIY version to keep stashed in your spice rack. Plus, the seeds and spice coating in our Everything Spice Salmon recipe creates a flavorful texture that’s a must-try.
The hallmark of the everything spice seasoning blend are the seeds. You’ll note that in this recipe there are both white and black sesame seeds. While the most obvious distinguishing factor between the two is color, black sesame seeds have a slight bitter bite and white sesame seeds have a nutty, earthy taste. White sesame seeds are also known to be ground up to make tahini, a paste commonly used in Arabic cuisine. And you can’t overlook the poppy seed included in the seasoning blend. Poppy seed contains fine oils that turn quickly and make the seeds naturally sweet and nutty.
Beyond these seeds, the spice blend also adds flavor with a mix of garlic, onion, and a bit of salt. As you’re prepping the fish, remember to press seasoning into the salmon so it bakes in rather than falling off onto the pan and burning. You don’t want any of those nutrient-dense, flavor-rich seeds to go to waste!
