Is there anything better than tips and tricks to get you in and out of the kitchen fast while making food that’s delicious, clean, and fun to prepare?
Take this stir-fry, for example. It’s old news that a stir-fry means fast cooking—except for the prep. Wow. So much chopping, dicing, and shredding. Not to mention all the necessary bottled Asian specialties.
We’re reinventing the process! We’ve simplified stir fries into an easiest-ever 3-step formula.
The shortcuts start with shopping. (How bad can that be?!) Almost every supermarket sells organic chicken breast or boneless beef sirloin pre-sliced into stir fry-ready strips. If you can’t find them prepped like this, choose a package of organic boneless skinless chicken breasts or pastured boneless beef sirloin and ask the butcher to prep it for you. Most butchers are happy to help.
Shopping the right way in the produce section will also save you time at home. There’s a large selection of small veggies that need almost no prep, like sugar snaps and snow peas. Or try spiralized zucchini, pre-sliced mushrooms, and broccoli florets.
Great! You’ve got the ingredients. Here’s the 3-step formula:
1. Add a small splash of toasted sesame or peanut oil to wok and heat it over high heat until the oil is rippling. Then add the prepped chicken or beef and toss it around just until it loses its raw color.
2. Now add the vegetables. Toss them with the meat until they just begin to soften.
3. Now add your sauce mixture. Sure, you can add the standard: low-sodium soy sauce. Or try our favorite combo: tamari, rice vinegar, and a nut butter that will add flavor and thicken your sauce. Try crunchy peanut butter, smooth cashew butter, or toasted almond butter. Pour this mixture in and cook until bubbly and hot.
No wok? Again, no worries! A large skillet will do the trick as long as you keep the ingredients moving over the heat the whole time.
