Changing up your diet to include more plant-based meals is not only good for your health, but it’s also good for your wallet and the planet. Numerous studies show that plant-based diets are associated with lower risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity, as well as increased longevity. The key is all the micronutrients (vitamins and minerals), antioxidants and fiber you get from a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds and whole grains.

A meatless meal should contain one-third protein (such as beans, nuts and seeds), one-third fruit or vegetable and one-third whole grain to be complete. Such meals are also budget-friendly as these foods cost less than animal-based foods (meat, chicken and dairy). Additionally, plant-based eating benefits the planet by reducing our carbon footprint and by minimizing agricultural water usage.
