Taste Something New

When you think of Texas, you likely think of big (leather) hats, big (leather) boots and big (beefy) steaks. The 9th annual Texas VegFest, a passion project of the Texas Veg Foundation, is working to change those associations through education about the benefits of a plant-based diet for the health of humans, animals and the planet. Access to the trade show and its 100 participating companies is free; head to Fiesta Gardens in Austin on April 4 to see what all the buzz is about. texasvegfest.com

Bowls: Vibrant Recipes with Endless Possibilities book
America’s Test Kitchen

Dig In

Is there anything more stunning than a heaping bowl of whole ingredients? We don’t think so, and the folks at America’s Test Kitchen agree. Their new book, Bowls: Vibrant Recipes with Endless Possibilities, delivers just what the title promises – 75 lip-smacking, eye-catching recipes that can be dug, slurped and devoured out of everyone’s favorite meal vessel. $28, shop.americastestkitchen.com

Eat Love, a traveling food truck

Do A Double Take

Leading the way in the Southern California vegan food scene is Eat Love, a traveling food truck that brings succulent (and convincing!) fried faux chicken and nondairy ice cream and treats to the masses. Not in the Orange County area? Have no fear: They also have a brick-and-mortar store from which they can ship their wares across the country. eatlove.co

Look To The Future

This year, and with a goal of enlisting 1 billion people to pledge allegiance to a healthier planet, Earth Day is marking its 50th anniversary in a fittingly global way. On April 22, head to Washington, DC, to take part in the largest of the North American rallies alongside Global Ambassadors (with names including Leonardo DiCaprio and John Kerry), or find one in your neighborhood by visiting earthday.org.

Have A Good Chuckl

Laughter may indeed be the best medicine: It’s associated with reduced stress and improved immunity and can decrease one’s sensitivity to pain. And while Netflix may be a solid go-to when you want to tickle your funny bone, there’s nothing like witnessing an expert comedian live, especially in the unofficial capital of stand-up comedy, New York. Check out the April Fools Comedy Show, coming to Madison Square Garden on April 4, to see a lineup of pros like Mike Epps, or enjoy the comedy stylings of funnyman Jim Gaffigan at Radio City Music Hall on April 9, 10 and 11. msg.com
