“Lather, rinse, repeat.” Really? Over-washing your strands can dry out hair and imbalance oil production of the scalp, which can lead to greasy hair and dandruff. While washing your hair less is best for healthier hair, this can be challenging if your locks are prone to getting limp or oily fast. This conscious dry shampoo recipe that forgoes the chemicals and aerosol can contains arrowroot powder to absorb oil and restore volume to the roots plus it contains kaolin clay to help absorb odors. Make this recipe your go-to for extending the number of days between washes.
Wash-Extending Dry Shampoo
2 tbsp arrowroot powder
2 tbsp kaolin clay (or use 4 tbsp arrowroot powder)
For light hair:
½ tsp ground chamomile (TIP: Grind your own using a spice or coffee grinder or a mortar and pestle.)
5 drops sweet orange essential oil
5 drops lavender essential oil
For dark hair:
½ tsp ground cinnamon
7 drops sweet orange essential oil
3 drops ylang ylang essential oil
1. To a small bowl, add arrowroot and clay. Add ingredients of your choice depending on hair color; stir to combine.
2. Into a spice jar, funnel or spoon mixture.
3. To use, cover your shoulders with a towel. Apply to dry hair, sprinkling a small amount into your palm and using fingers or a makeup brush to distribute into roots. Use fingers or a comb to sweep dry shampoo from roots to ends. Allow shampoo to sit for several minutes to absorb oils.
4. Comb or shake out any excess powder. Style as usual.
TIP: If you use too much, use a blow dryer on a cool setting to blow out excess, or use a hairbrush or comb to brush out excess powder.
